More Than a Competition — A Movement

After making history in 2024 as the first sanctioned Para Dance Sport (wheelchair ballroom dancing) competition in North America, the Para Dance Sport USA Open returns to Detroit July 25–26, 2026, hosted by the Reimagine Life Foundation at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center.

This international event will welcome world-class wheelchair ballroom dancers, adjudicators, and classifiers—bringing a global community together in Downtown Detroit for an unforgettable weekend of sport, excellence, and celebration.

What is Para Dance Sport?

Para Dance Sport is an elegant, graceful, and highly athletic sport featuring dancers who use a manual or power wheelchair due to a physical disability. Para Dance competitions have been held throughout Europe and Asia for decades—and thanks to Detroit, the sport now has a home in North America, too.
